Human beings are not cardboard cut-outs or barbie dolls. We are all distinct - physically, emotionally, and mentally - and rather than trying to fit everyone into the same (yogi shaped) mold, I teach body positive yoga that welcomes and works with difference. I don't believe in the idea of ‘perfect’ alignment. Instead, I encourage integrity of movement, organic fluidity, and safe, individual alignment, inspired by the teachings of Paul Grilley. The idea of a 'yoga body' is a ridiculous myth - your differences are what make you great, so let's celebrate them!
Yoga is more much than standing on your head with your eyes closed (although of course this is great fun). It is the act of connecting your body, mind, and breath. Of taking up residence inside yourself. It isn't about what you do on the mat, it's about how you behave off it. The lessons we learn with our bodies in class – the strength, flexibility, compassion, awareness and understanding that we develop – it all only matters if we take those lessons into our everyday lives. Into how we treat others and how we treat ourselves. It’s not the shapes on the mat that matter, it’s the impact they have on how we live.
Yoga is a system of living, of taking care of yourself and the world around you, and anyone can get on board with that.
My aim is to create a safe space, both in the studio and online, where all bodies are respected, and everyone is welcome, total beginners and experienced yogis alike.
